Support 12 young musicians to come to Carifesta

Kendrum Youth Steel Orchestra (KYSO) is part of the Kendrum Music Academy & Recording Studio a pioneering cultural group  in Canada. Since 1998 our academy has built a dynamic and unique method of rapidly teaching the fundamentals of playing the signature instrument of the Eastern Caribbean and the first major addition to music instruments in the 20th century- the Steel Pan

KYSO is seeking your generous donation to help us realize our goal of attending the Caribbean Festival of the Arts (CARIFESTA) XI being held 16-25 August 2013 in Suriname.  This unique festival of arts brings artists from  all the Caribbean Countries as well as some South American and African countries this year.
Our Academy is boldly seeking to bring young musicians whose parents came from the Caribbean but who have never had an opportunity to visit and savor the culture of the Caribbean in the homeland of their parents.

At CARIFESTA youths will be exposed to a wide range of cultural expressions all in one place. Performing and visual artists, arts and generalist educators, folk musicians and indigenous peoples of the Caribbean will meet, perform, and exchange ideas.

We believe that when young people have a unique experience like this they will have greater self esteem and be motivated to contribute to world culture. We are convinced they will develop and demonstrate a much healthier respect for other cultures .

I am Kenton Wyattt the founder and director of Kendrum Youth Steel Orchestra.  My own heritage, education and performing arts exposure span a wide range of Caribbean countries and artforms. We at Kendrum Music Academy will be taking twelve of our youths of diverse backgrounds to attend and participate in CARIFESTA XI.  This experience for them will bring invaluable enrichment to them.  My confidence in the societal benefit is confirmed by decades of observation.

I have been working in the area of youth development and education through arts and since 1978. I was successful in taking numerous students on trips to places of cultural interest. Some of these include Kaieteur Falls in the rain forest of Guyana South America; the Tobago Heritage Festival in Trinidad & Tobago; CARIFESTA VI also in Trinidad & Tobago; the Millennium Celebration in the UK; Disney Millennium celebration in Orlando, Florida, Radio City MusicHall, NY; Carnegie Hall New York, NY; the Guyana Folk Festival, NY, and the Boston Caribbean Carnival in Massachusetts.

All funds donated to us will go towards air tickets, accomodation and food for  our  youths ' stay in Suriname.

Please donate, asks your friends to give generously and ask everyone you know to promote our project through posts on social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google +, Linkedin) , email and on blogs /websites.
