Suriname Swimmers Pigot and Tjon A Joe swim 100m freestyle today in Pan AM Games Toronto

Chinyere Pigot who was flag bearer for the Suriname team and Renzo Tjon a Joe , Auburn University professional swimmer will compete for Suriname in the 100 meters freestyle at the Pan AM Aquatic Center at the University of Toronto.

The two swimmers are competing today for a place in the 100m freestyle final tonight at 7.05 pm for Women's Final B ; 7.10 for Women's Final A;7.15 for Men's Final B and 7.20pm for men's final A.

The heats to qualify for the finals take place this morning. The women's event has four heats from 10.05 am to 10.14.

Chinyere Pigot is in heat 3 with the 5th best qualifying time.
The men's three heats run from 11.45 to 11.48am. Renzo is in heat 2 with the 4th best qualifying time of 50.11which is a Suriname national record.

Renzo won a silver medal in November 2014 at the 22nd Central American and Caribbean games. Gold was won by George Bovell of Trinidad and Tobago.

Renzo Tjon A Joe   is  an AlphaMax Academy  Graduate and Oasis swimmer. He won the 2013 Suriname Sportsman of the Year award.  Renzo is the National champion in the 50m and 100m freestyle Long Course and Short Course. He holds the Surinamese national records in these events.

Chinyere Pigot is lives in Miami, Florida. She attends the University of Connecticut and participates on a collegiate level. Pigot represented Suriname  at the 2008 Summer Olympics at age fifteen.

Renzo Tjon A Joe--riding forward to greater success.

Last year our talented swimmer Renzo Tjon A Joe ( ranked number 7 in the world in the 50m) gave a sterling performance as Herod in the school's unique version of the Nativity .

Renzo has moved from success to success. He became a professional swimmer for Auburn ( one of the leading teams in the US); he won silver and bronze .

medals in the Carifta, Central American and Caribbean Games and the recent Doha World Junior Championships.

He continues to  break the national records in his events.

Suriname Renzo Tjon A Joe 7th in World Class Field at Mesa Arizona



MESA, Arizona, April 25.

Suriname’s sprint champion Renzo Tjon A Joe reached the finals of the men’s 50-meter freestyle at the Arena Grand Prix in Arizona Mesa Grand Priz, USA swimming.Mesa. He placed 7th in this world class field with a time of 22.84.

Sprint star Nathan Adrian won the men's 50-meter freestyle in 21.73 - a top five time in the world .
Nathan is a three-time Olympic gold medalist who currently holds the American record in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.

Adrian now moves to fifth in the SwimVortex world rankings, bettering his 21.89 from the Austin stop of the Arena Grand Prix. Phoenix Swim Club's Roland Schoeman touched down second in 22.19, while the South African Nationals. NYAC's Josh Schneider earned third in 22.24.

Also in the final with Renzo Tjon A Joe were :NYAC's Jimmy Feigen (22.55), California's Anthony Ervin (22.57), PASA's Alex Coville (22.65), and SwimAtlanta's Karl Krug (22.92).

Renzo reaches final in 100m at Arizona.



On Friday, Renzo Tjon A Joe finished twelfth with a time of 22.75 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle to guarantee a place in the final of the Arena Grand Prix 2014 in Mesa.

Former Olympic champion Ervin [Unlink] had the fastest entry time (21.42).Renzo is competing with 98 of the leading swimmers in the US. Later in the evening Renzo improved his time to 51.13 seconds finishing sixth in the B final and fourteenth overall.In the preliminaries he clocked 51.27.

The Arena Grand Prix at Mesa is the fourth stop of USA Swimming’s 2013-14 Arena Grand Prix Series, which provides the nation’s best swimmers six opportunities to face top-flight competition on U.S. soil. 50 members of the USA Swimming National Team are among the more than 500 athletes competing. The biggest name is undoubtedly the legendary Michael Phelps  - America's most successful Olympic swimmer who is returning to competitive swimming.

Phelps won silver in the 100m butterfly in 52.13, behind Ryan Lochte: 51.93. Renzo Tjon A Joe also swam the 100m butterfly. He finished 42th with a time of 56.94.

Renzo Tjon A Joe is Suriname's leading sprint swimmer and holder of the national 50m and 100m records. He is an AlphaMax Academy graduate and Sports prize winner. He was voted Suriname's Sportsman of the Year for his achievements.

RenzoTjon A Joe off to Arizona Grand Prix

Renzo Tjon A Joe , AlphaMax Academy Graduate and leading Suriname Swimmer is competing in the Mesa 2014 Grand Prix in Arizona.

This is the fourth stop on the Arena Grand Prix Series .It takes place at the Skyline Aquatic Center. It is being held from April 24 to the 26.

Olympic gold medalists and world record holders Michael Phelps (Baltimore, Md.), Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md.) are expected to headline a star-studded field for the Arena Grand Prix at Mesa.

A record-setting 22-time Olympic Games medalist, Phelps is expected to swim competitively for the first time since winning six medals, four of them gold, at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

50 members of the USA Swimming National Team are among the more than 500 athletes expected to compete

The action begins Thursday, April 24 and continues through Saturday, April 26 with prelims at 9 a.m. MST followed by finals at 5 p.m. MST.

Universal Sports Network will televise live coverage from the Arena Grand Prix at Mesa on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26 at 8 p.m. EDT. Additionally, a live webcast of the entire meet will be streamed online Thursday through Saturday via usaswimming.org.

The Arena Grand Prix at Mesa is the fourth stop of USA Swimming’s 2013-14 Arena Grand Prix Series, which provides the nation’s best swimmers six opportunities to face top-flight competition on U.S. soil.

As part of USA Swimming’s partnership with Arena, the Arena Grand Prix Series will offer swimmers the opportunity to take home prize money for top finishes in all individual Olympic-distance event.
