Xiomara and Tariq Getrouw have continued to demonstrate their athletic skills in the US by winning their first races at Monroe Community College where they are now studying,
Last Saturday, September 21 Xiomara won the 7th edition of the MCC 5 km race. She was the best female runner.
Tariq was the best MCC male runner.
Xiomara commented: "It was a very cold and rainy day. The temperature here in the U.S. is very different from Suriname. During the race, my team (Resident Life) supported me strongly."
Tariq said: "This was a very good experience for me. The event ended with a dinner and award ceremony. "

Tariq and Xiomara started school in the first week of September.Xiomara is in the Liberal Arts program. She is taking six courses this semester : Spanish, German, English, Biology Lab,and Social Studies. She is enjoying her courses so far and is happy to be doing languages.At AlphaMax she had often stated that her dream was to study at least four languages.
Tariq is in the Fine Arts program. Both students graduated from AlphaMax Academy in June.
